Mindfulness for Resilience — A Seven-Part Series for NYU Langone Postdocs

Overview
This in-person mindfulness program is designed to help postdoctoral researchers at NYU Langone build a sustainable meditation practice that supports emotional resilience, stress management, and presence amid professional and personal uncertainty. Over seven sessions, participants will learn foundational techniques and explore diverse mindfulness approaches that they can integrate into their daily lives.
Program Goals
By the end of the series, participants will be able to:
· Understand the function and nature of their thoughts and emotions.
· Establish a consistent personal mindfulness practice.
· Use mindfulness to manage anxiety, uncertainty, and difficult emotional states.
· Apply self-compassion and embodied awareness in high-stress situations.
· Identify accessible forms of mindfulness that fit their lifestyle and professional demands.
Dates, Times, Location
The program will run for seven sessions, from November 4 to January 20.
Each session will be one hour long, from 5-6pm, meeting in person in Research Building 3rd Floor Conference Room
The dates will be: Nov 4, 11, 18, 25, December 16, and Jan 13, 20
Instructor
Dr. Matthias Birk has 30 years of meditation experience. He has a MSc. in Psychology and a doctorate in Business and Economics. He’s been teaching at Columbia and NYU for over a decade. He’s a teacher at New York’s Still Mind Zendo and has published in Harvard Business Review, MIT Sloan Management Review, Mindful Magazine and Tricycle Buddhist Magazine.
