    Event description

    9am – 3pm | ages 5 to 12 yrs

    • Friday 2 August - Bees
      We learn about the vital role of bees, investigate traditional beekeeping techniques, make beeswax candles and a bee-inspired artwork.
    • Friday 9 August - Native Bees
      We discuss the characteristics and roles of native bees, add a native bee hotel to the garden and make a natural lip balm using beeswax and honey.
    • Friday 16 August - Ladybirds
      We go on a ladybird hunt in the garden and talk about plants that attract them. We craft a pet ladybird and make a tic tac toe game set.
    • Friday 23 August - Butterflies
      We find out about butterflies and their role in the garden ecosystem, make paper butterflies and investigate a chrysalis hatch and release program.
    • Friday 30 August - Beneficial Bugs
      We go hunting, photographing and identifying beneficial bugs, plant some bug attracting flowers and conduct a beneficial bug survey.
    • Friday 6 September - Creepy Crawlies
      We learn about classifying different creepy crawlies and their scientific names, and make a natural bug repellent.
    • Friday 13 September - Birds
      We conduct a bird count, talk about types of birds and discuss ethical farming. We create origami birds and rebuild our Farm Kids scarecrow.
    • Friday 20 September - Reptiles and Amphibians
      We count and name farm reptiles and amphibians and learn about cold-blooded and warm-blooded animals. We install a frog hotel in the garden.

      Welcome to our 8-week program designed to foster a deep connection between children and nature through hands-on learning, friendship, and fun. Our theme this term centres around native creatures from tiny insects to birds and reptiles. Making connections each week to regenerative agriculture, gardening, and the incredible roles that various creatures play in our ecosystem. 

      Each week, we'll explore different aspects of nature, from bees and butterflies to ladybirds and reptiles, emphasising their importance in sustainable farming and environmental health. Both teachers and children will engage in an interactive, respectful, and enjoyable learning environment. The program includes ample time for rest and free play, ensuring a balanced and enriching experience. Get ready for an exciting journey where we will learn through science, create with artistic expression, and connect with nature in meaningful ways.

      Join us for a journey of discovery and learning as we explore the wonders of nature and the importance of sustainable practices in agriculture. Together, we'll grow, play, and connect with the world around us.

      What to bring
      Children will need:

      • Sturdy walking shoes
      • Raincoat
      • Sunhat
      • Healthy lunch box and water bottle for the day
      • Backpack (to carry above)
      • All items need to be labelled

      Where to meet
      We will meet at the Farm House opposite the restaurant. Please look out for the signs to guide you.

      Ages
      These workshops are appropriate for children who are interested in farming, energetic and willing to work. Ages 5 to 12 years.

      Extra Service
      If you are a working parent please discuss with the Farm Kids Manager if you need your child to start early or finish later than the designated program time so as to get to and from work. For an extra fee this can be arranged.
