Mini Farmers Thursdays - Term 4, 2026
Description
Term Overview
This term, Farm Kids will immerse themselves in the colourful and inspiring world of flowers, herbs, seeds and natural plant materials. Through hands-on farm experiences, creative projects, sensory investigations and practical stewardship, children will discover how plants grow, flower, produce seeds, support pollinators, flavour our food, care for people and help keep our planet healthy.
Grounded in Northern NSW farm ecology and regenerative farming principles, this program encourages children to become curious botanists, creative makers and thoughtful caretakers of the land. Children may encounter or discuss: Lavender, edible flowers, native and garden flowers, bees, butterflies, hoverflies and other important pollinators.
Weeks 3–4: Seeds, Cuttings & New Life
Children discover how flowers transform into seeds and explore the incredible ways plants reproduce. They'll investigate seed formation, germination and propagation while experimenting with growing new plants from both seeds and cuttings.
Children may encounter or discuss: Seed pods, dry flower heads, herbs, native and garden seeds, grasses, soil, compost and plant cuttings.
Weeks 5–6: Herbs for Food, Care & Wellbeing
Children explore the wonderful world of herbs by harvesting, tasting and creating with fresh plants from the farm. They'll discover how herbs flavour food, have been used throughout history and continue to play an important role in everyday wellbeing.
Children may encounter or discuss: Mint, basil, parsley, rosemary, thyme, oregano, lemon balm, lavender, chamomile, calendula and other seasonal culinary and medicinal herbs.
Weeks 7–8: Natural Products, Waste & Planet Care
The term concludes by encouraging children to think creatively about sustainability. They'll make useful products from natural materials, explore waste-wise living and give back to the farm through practical stewardship projects that support healthy gardens and ecosystems.
