Mini Micro Moments - A Microvolunteering Festival for Kids
Event description
Calling all parents! Is your child aged 5 - 13?
During the next school holidays, we’re hosting a virtual microvolunteering festival ... and all primary and intermediate-aged tamariki are invited to join us for a day of virtual fun!
We'll have four activities on offer, all of which will show your child how they can use their skills, strengths, and creativity, to make a meaningful difference in their community, and enable them to experience the joy of microvolunteering.
10am - 10:45am: Yoga and Mindfulness
(Before you can serve your community, you have to serve yourself. We'll kick-off the morning with a relaxing yoga and mindfulness session, specifically designed for kids).
10:45am - 11:30am: Postcard Picnic
(Then, it'll be time to get creative! We'll spend some time hand-making cards, before filling them with messages of love to spread some cheer to lonely residents in local rest homes).
11:30pm - 12pm: Break
12pm - 12:45pm: SPCA Toy Drive
(Next, we'll repurpose old clothing into tug toys, which animals at the SPCA can use for enrichment and nourishment while they wait for their forever homes).
12:45pm - 1:30pm: Bake-Along
(We'll finish off the day with a live baking demonstration, where your child will learn how to whip up a delicious recipe, that they can pass on to someone in need).
Each session is appropriate for all ages and abilities, and will be delivered free of charge via Zoom (although you’ll need a few supplies from home for some of them). Your tamariki can stay for the whole day, or pop along for whichever sessions take their fancy).

What is microvolunteering?
Microvolunteering is based on a simple idea - that huge impact can collectively be created when a small group of people unite together to do a little good … and it turns this into a new approach to community action. It’s all about bite-sized volunteer tasks that allow you to make a difference to your community in small chunks of time.
Who is delivering the event?
The Microvolunteering Collective - a community group dedicated to breaking down the barriers to traditional volunteering, and enabling anyone - regardless of their age, gender, background, or ability, to make a meaningful difference in their community). It will be co-facilitated by a trained Girl Power instructor.
Why should your child join?
It's a great way for your child to put kindness into action, learn about how they can make a difference in their community, develop their skills, meet others from around the country, practice creativity, and have fun!
