Event description

Adapted from an ancient celtic myth, Mis O' The Mountains is an immersive multidisciplinary performance piece, braiding contemporary dance with mythological story-telling and avant folk-music

Led by Naarm-based experimental-folk artist and dancer, Jessie Monk (currently in Hadestown), in collaboration with dance artists Jareen Wee and Sebastian Geilings, this piece sprouts from the seed of Monk's sophomore album, Mis O' The Mountains (released by PopUp records on May 14th), a concept album based on the ancient celtic myth of Mis.

This company humbly invites you to the premiere of this performance, held on Wurundjeri Country, to allow this myth to carry us into the the deep and spiritually poignant waters of grief, metamorphosis, catharsis and belonging hearkening the ancient and ancestral soul into modern times through creative and poetic ritual.

Brought to life by the music of:

Jessie Monk (compositions, guitar, vocals)
Arlon Faria (piano, vocals)
Aidan Ryan (electric, vocals)
Jamie Lena (guitar, percussion, vocals)
Claire Abougelis (bass, vocals)

and movement and choreography of:

Jareen Wee & Sebastian Geilings

with the design by:

Char-Lee (costume)
Elvy Swan (sound)
Elekis Poblete Teirney (lighting)

For one-night-only we shall gather in this way, honouring this goddess as a community through, song, movement, story-telling and quiet in celebration of Jessie's album release.

We are humbled to follow her ancient map through grief's dark waters, cleaving open a space for being together as a community in our individual and collective grief, in the hope that you may leave with her as a companion and an uncovered ancestor.
