Event description

Start your 2025 off with a flying start and hit some of your personal fitness and health goals. Join us for a free volunteer-led community running and walking program.

The program is run by the Mitchelton IMF Runners and Walkers and is open to Indigenous Australians, family and friends. The program is designed to provide a safe and inclusive space for folks of all ages to start or resume their running and walking goals.

It doesn't matter what your fitness level, over 9 weeks of training and support you will hit goals - big and small.

When: Tuesday (5:45 for 6pm start), Thursday (5:45 for 6pm start), Sunday (4pm)

Where: Teralba Park, Osbourne Road, Mitchelton

Dates: 5th January - 8th March

About the Indigenous Marathon Foundation

The Indigenous Marathon Project (IMP) was established in 2009 by world marathon champion, Rob de Castella, and in 2010 four Indigenous Australians created history as the first to run in the world’s biggest marathon – the New York City Marathon.

What do you need to do?

If you can, join our Information and Sign-on Sessions in January. If away and still want to join let us know.

About your trainers

Your IMF Run Leaders have been volunteering since 2017 and 2018. They have completed Recreational Running Run Leader (Athletics Australia) and First Aid Certificates.

What do you need to do?

Dig out your running shoes/ grab some new shoes on the Boxing Day Sales.

FAQs

  • I'm on holidays until mid-January, can I still join? Yes. You can either register and we'll send the program virtually. Or just come along and we'll work with you to get up to speed.
  • I don't think I can do January. Are you offering another program?  We will continue to run each week, but we will not deliver a separate Beginner Program at this stage. We can however support you to start running/ moving at any time. 
  • Do I have to run? No. You can walk. Runners and walkers are treated equally.
  • I don't think I could achieve 5k by graduation. Should I still come? Yes. We also have a 2k program.
