Mitzvah Day 2026 at Emanuel Synagogue
Description
Mitzvah Day is an opportunity to put our Jewish values into practice.
On Sunday 22 November, we invite the whole community to a day dedicated to making a positive difference in our world. You can help us with a donation of time or money. Even if you can’t participate in person, you can still make a meaningful impact by covering the costs of the meals and snack packs we will be preparing. Simply select the donation option on the ticket list below. If you’re extra generous, you may choose to do both.
On the day, you will have five activities to choose from:
Cooking Fresh Meals (9.30 am – 12.00 pm) – Help us chop, mix, cook and pack meals for Plates4Mates, an organisation that provides a food service to the homeless community, rough sleepers and anyone else in need of a warm meal. Minimum age is 12 years.
Preparing Snack Packs (10.00 am – 11.30 am) – Pack healthy treats and write notes for snack packs to be handed out by Plates4Mates. All ages are welcome.
Delivering Meals (2.45 pm – 3.30 pm) – Deliver the meals and snack packs to Prince Alfred Park.
Serving Meals (3.45 pm – 5.00 pm) – Serve the meals and distribute snack packs together with Plates4Mates at Prince Alfred Park. All ages are welcome.
Gardening (10.00 am – 12.00 pm) – Join us in the David Constable Memorial Garden to plant for pollinators, build native bee “hotels” and become a citizen scientist by collecting biodiversity data. The program will be led by PlantingSeeds. Suitable for adults and children over 3. Please wear closed-toe shoes, a sunhat and sunscreen.
You’re welcome to take part in more than one activity. Just select a ticket for each activity you’d like to join when booking.
Please register in advance to help us prepare for the day. We look forward to coming together to give back.
