Event description

Do you want to be able to frame artworks, but don’t know how? This half-day workshop shows you how to work with timber framing profiles and the appropriate tools to make a conventional picture frame.

This 4 hour course is designed specifically for beginners, with no previous experience with tools or in workshops. It is a confidence building introduction to simple carpentry skills that is focussed on getting artists skilled up to make their own simple picture frames at home. Please note: we don’t teach glass cutting in this course, but we can help you find the right people to help you with these. This is specifically for artwork on paper or textile, no canvasses.

It covers the fundamentals of tool use and workshop techniques, including:

  • Confidence in your ability to use the following tools correctly and safely – hand and power saws, drill drivers, staple guns and measuring equipment.
  • Learning to measure and cut accurately
  • Practice simple joinery using glue, V nails and clamps
  • Familiarise yourself with the workshop environment, practices and health and safety

This course is about applied learning: bring a small artwork (maximum size 40cm x 40cm) to the course and we’ll take you through making a frame for it.

What you bring: Yourself and a small artwork. All tools and materials are included in the registration.

What to wear: suitable clothing for the workshop, and sturdy closed shoes. We provide safety glasses and ear protection.

Cost - $190 (incl GST)
