Mixed Media Collage Workshop
Event description
Collage is a contemporary art form where pieces of paper and photographs are put together to create a whole new piece. When you think about creating a collage you have to think about and try to understand the concept of layers, as you discover how the components in a collage need to be placed and well thought-out.
This is a medium that fuses experimentation along with a plan that reflects your personal expression as you think about how to collect, organize and layer materials like photographs, cut paper, fabric, paint and glued items to a finished piece.
No previous art experience is required for this workshop. Students are encouraged to bring copies of their photos in a variety of sizes in color or black and white. DO NOT BRING ORIGINAL PHOTOS since they will be cut and pasted onto your collage.
Each student will receive an assortment of collage materials from the instructor’s personal collection of decorative, hand painted and vintage papers to utilize in the creation of your collage

HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN CLASS
This class is available to take In Person at our Montclair NJ Shop, or online Virtually on Zoom. For the Virtual class participants can opt to take the class with a DIY Kit or choose to receive a shopping list.
IN PERSON CLASS
If a participant chooses to take the class In Person, then they are taking the class at our shop located at 547 Bloomfield Ave, Montclair NJ. For In Person Classes, materials will be provided at the shop.
VIRTUAL CLASS
If a participant chooses to take the class Virtually, they will receive a Zoom link. For Virtual Classes a participant can choose to receive a DIY Kit or a Shopping List.
To receive your DIY Kit in a timely manner, register at least a week or earlier in advance to reserve your materials for shipping or local curbside pick up. Please provide your shipping address when registering.
DIY Kit includes Magazines, Two or three 11 x 17 sheets of card stock weight paper, Glue Stick, Fine point black permanent marker, Fine point white gel pen
Participants will need scissors and a 12" metal ruler. Participants can also incorporate any crafty art supplies they have around the house, like Stencils, Paints, Markers, Colored Pencils, washi tape, etc.
Participants who register for a Virtual class with a Shopping List will be emailed a list of materials, utensils, appliances, and other items needed to participate in the workshop. Participants are responsible for sourcing their materials in time for class. Participants are welcome to contact us for recommendations as to where they can source their materials.
APPROPRIATE AGES FOR PARTICIPATION
Participants must be at least 12 years old or older and can work independently. If a participant needs a caretaker or parent to assist with the project the assisting person does not need a ticket.
CLASS PARTICIPATION
This is a Live event. In Person and Virtual Class Participants must attend on the scheduled date and time of the class in order to partake. There is no recorded session available for replay. If an In Person Participant is unable to attend the class in Person they can request to join the class Virtually and we can arrange accommodations. If a Virtual Class participant is unable to log onto a class on the day and time it is scheduled then it is the participant’s responsibility to contact us prior to the event for accommodations. If a participant is unable to join and needs to reschedule, there is a rescheduling fee that will be billed to the participant. If we as the organizers need to reschedule an event there is no rescheduling fee, and participants will be notified of any changes.

INTERNATIONAL VIRTUAL PARTICIPATION
If you live outside of the United States there is an additional fee to ship DIY kits. Participants are responsible for any duty fees, customs fees, or any additional fees associated with receiving their DIY Kits. If a participant chooses to get a DIY Kit it is the participant’s responsibility to make sure their country can receive packages from the US.
