Miyawaki Tiny Forest Planting in Victoria Park/Pakapakanthi

The South East City Residents Association's volunteer group, Green Pakapakanthi, is pleased to host the second Miyawaki tiny forest planting event in Victoria Park/Pakapakanthi (Park 16). Please join other volunteers in planting two more tiny forests – one will be in the Miyawaki method (intense soil preparation and high-density planting) and the second in the traditional horticultural method (control planting). These plantings will be adjacent to the existing tiny forest that was established in August 2023, and together will create a corridor and critical mass of endemic plants that we hope will provide a protected environment for small birds to feed, nest and thrive. Additionally, because we will be able to compare plant growth and biodiversity across these distinct but equal-sized plots, we will be able to rigorously assess the suitability of the Miyawaki method for restoring native habitat in Adelaide’s parks and streets.

Places are limited so get in early. For insurance purposes, please register each person separately including each child. 

We will meet at 9.30am at the existing Miyawaki forest beside the Victoria Park Wetlands (just in front of Beaumont Road off the corner of South and East Terrace) - look out for the Green Pakapakanthi flag.

Please wear enclosed shoes (no sandals), long sleeves, long pants and sun protection. If you have them, please bring along your gardening gloves and trowels, as well as wet weather gear if showers or rain are forecast. Sorry, no pets.
