Session 1 - Floating with Heidi Froelich CZT40.
Starting with the usual grid pattern as a base, let’s use it as the medium for constructing something over and above the usual structure, something that floats and grows and extends beyond the base.
About Heidi: She is a retired businesswoman who has worked in the logic brained industry of accounting for many years. She had a rich history of a working life but when Covid struck and changed our existence, she was reunited with her creative self. She rediscovered the joy of drawing and became a Certified Zentangle Teacher, delved into publishing colouring books and is the creator of the My Step Out Library series. Engrossed with these endeavours, she lives a fabulous life in Melbourne, Australia where the coffee is the absolute best in the world.
Session 2 - Off the Grid, Onto the Orb: Crafting Miniature Worlds with Ashe Lan CZT43
The creative journey explores the dynamics of a round canvas, working with sweeping strings that divide the circle into flowing segments which take on an almost earthly, planetary quality - resembling orbital paths, atmospheric swirls, or miniature worlds spinning in space.
About: Ashe Lan is based in Hobart, Tasmania, a Certified Zentangle Teacher with over twenty years of experience in education, autism support, and inclusive learning. As a practitioner in neuro-affirming and accessible education, she focuses on making creativity relaxed, approachable, and achievable for all learning styles and abilities. Through her business, Knights of the Shed, Ashe runs both local and online sessions that use the Zentangle Method as a practical tool to help people unwind, find focus, and build quiet (or loud!) confidence in their drawing. Alongside her direct teaching, she also provides consultation for other educational practitioners, as well as community and private services, helping them develop and implement neuro-affirming and accessible creative programs within their own spaces.
Session 3 - Pattern Remix with Katrina Etherington CZT42&43
In this session we will reimagine grid-based fragments. Many of our favourite tangles and fragments begin life within a grid. The structure helps us learn them, but what happens when we step beyond the grid and allow those familiar elements to evolve? We will explore familiar grid-based tangles and investigate the motifs hidden within them. By identifying the elemental strokes and repeating units that give these patterns their character, we can release them from their original structures and discover new possibilities.
About: Katrina Etherington based in Perth, Western Australia. Her creative journey began with mixed media art in 2013, where she found herself naturally drawn to repetitive mark making, pattern and mindful creative processes long before discovering the Zentangle Method. After formally learning the method, she recognised many of the qualities she had already been seeking in her own creative practice and has been using the Zentangle Method and creating Zentangle-inspired art regularly for the past two years.
Katrina enjoys exploring both traditional and contemporary approaches to Zentangle, with a particular interest in fragments, pattern development and finding new ways to transform familiar structures into original designs. Her long-term goal is to share the Zentangle Method with people seeking gentle, accessible creative practices that support wellbeing, recovery, self-expression and mindful attention in everyday life. Through her teaching, Katrina hopes to create welcoming spaces where people can slow down, reconnect with creativity and discover the restorative power of making one deliberate stroke at a time.
This is an attend-only workshop. A materials list will be sent to all registrants, as well as workshop information. The workshop will begin at 10am with the Zoom session opening at 9.45am. Each session will run for 2 hours with a half-hour break in between. The sessions will be recorded and available for six months after the event. Participants will receive links via email after the workshop is finished.
