Event description
Hosted by QUT Design Lab: Mobility Futures Theme
Monash Mobility Design Lab - Research Portfolio
Associate Professor Robbie Napper
When: Tuesday 13th May, 12:15pm-1:30pm (including light lunch)
Where: QUT KG, Z9-607
The Mobility Design Lab aspires to push the boundaries of the understanding and execution of mobility. Our primary focus is how design might improve the physical, environmental and experiential aspects of mobility around urban centres. We seek to advance the future of mobility using a sustainability lens, which considers decarbonisation and the transition from personal cars to shared, active and micro transport modes.
We combine evidence-based research methods to create real-world, design-led innovations that challenge current approaches. Affiliated with the Monash Institute of Transport Studies, Monash University Accident Research Centre (MUARC) and the Institute of Rail Technology (IRT), our researchers engage with user-centred and participatory research techniques to reveal new insights into user experiences. Our research mediates connections between government, science, engineering and user experiences of mobility systems.
In this presentation, Co-Director of Monash University's Mobility Design Lab A/Prof Robbie Napper will walk through the lab's strategic approach to research in mobility with worked examples of completed research projects.
Presenter's Bio:
Robbie Napper is an Industrial Designer, Researcher and Associate Professor with the Department of Design at Monash University. Robbie’s aim is to make sustainable transport the easiest choice to make. He pursues this goal by designing innovative vehicles and transport systems, studying a cross section of the built environment including bicycles, buses, the road rules, and how people use mobility systems.
