Event description

SYLC, PDC, and the Whakamana Cannabis Museum are beyond proud to present: The Modern Hypnosis Label Showcase featuring Pugilist and Ebb at Hopetun Alpha! We have the privilege of working with our favorite sound system, The Port Dubs Collective System at one of Auckland’s most iconic buildings located on Karangahape Road. This will be a unique day party unlike any other! The finest in dub, club hybrid music shall be showcased in an intimate, unique setting. Located just off K Road, Hopetun Alpha is an unmistakable building built in 1875 with Greek architecture; easily recognizable by the grandiose coliseums supporting the front of the building. The inside is equally as breathtaking thanks to the intricate craftsmanship that has gone into the building’s carpentry…. They just don’t make them like they used to! At present, this wonderful space has been filled by the amazing team at the Whakamana Cannabis Museum and Callyx Clinic who have graciously allowed us to use their space for this event. As such, any legally prescribed people can medicate as they see fit for this event on premise ;)We are big believers in legalization and echo their Kaupapa wholeheartedly – they do amazing work! The unique setting for this show alone would be enough to make it a ripper, but we’re even more fortunate to have Pugilist joining us from Aus and Ebb from CHCH, repping the Modern Hypnosis label. For the unacquainted, Modern Hypnosis is a Naarm based record label who have been at the forefront of dub inspired club music in the Southern Hemisphere for some time now. Fronted by the boss man Scott aka Stormn Norm, he has put in tireless hours to build one of the finest labels we know of with a very high bar for quality of releases. The label can’t be shoeholed into a genre, more so an ethos – dub inspired, sound system focused music for the dance floor.  Pugilist is a notable name of many UK flavored subgenres you should be familiar with. Originally from Scotland, Alex spent much time in New Zealand before finally settling down in Naarm, where he lives today. With an approach to production that blends so beautifully with the ethos of Modern Hypnosis, it's evident why he is a frequent name being pressed on the label; He’s also released on powerhouses such as Martyn’s 3024, Banofee Pie Beats and Mantra/Double’s Rupture. Pugilist’s tunes are plentiful and varied, yet they almost all hold true to the overarching dub inspiration whether he be making Jungle, Dubstep, Dub Techno or other adjacent genres. Often fusing elements from the aforementioned genres together in his productions and DJ sets, Alex’s set is one not to miss.  Also part of the MH gang is Christchurch’s, Ebb. Guy has a broad and diverse range of productions and mixing tastes that makes him hard to narrow down, in the best way possible. Having headlined ‘Project One’ for us, Ebb needs little introduction to SYLC fans and Auckland bass heads alike. Being a regular on Perez’s 1985, he’s broken into new levels of notoriety and as big supporters of his craft, we couldn’t be more glad to see him get the recognition he deserves. One must witness an Ebb set to understand; no two are the same! On support, we have Faulsk showcasing his unreleased productions and repping the SYLC crew. Repping the yellow and blue banner for the PDC will be Dub Sinatra B2B D-Low, two long standing, experienced dub slingers of the NZ scene.Join us on this afternoon from 2-8 PM on the 16th of November at 19 Beresford Square for an unforgettable, completely unique day party to celebrate dub music and the culmination of Auckland’s underground communities. We’re privileged to share this experience with you and can’t wait to make some lifelong memories together. With love,SYLC, PDC and Whakamana x
