Moirai Birthday Gig @ Quad w/ The Handsomest Men In The World
Event description
Off the back of their NSW residency, Moirai bring a fun and fresh set of new and improvised works for their trio. Bonus, it's AD Meg's birthday!
Melbourne’s new crossover ensemble combines old and new music into dynamic and innovative performances. This versatile trio featuring Meg Cohen on violin, David Moran on cello and Alexander Meagher on percussion, combines folk, medieval and improvised music with a curiosity for unusual rhythms and sounds. Described as “thoughtful performers and careful curators,” with a sound “capable of full warmth yet never far away from something unexpected or biting,” Moirai are “not afraid to push boundaries.” (Classikon, 2024)
With a shared passion for extending the sonic possibilities of their instruments, “The Handsomest Men in the World” (Daniel Waddingham (guitar) and Andrew Saragossi (saxophone)) fuse together their own unorthodox approaches to music making to cultivate a work that is daring and honest. Inspired by ideas of impermanence and multidimensionality, this duo challenges traditional approaches to instrumental roles and improvisation by emphasising the fluidity, density and movement of sound. Their music traverses through a large array of sound worlds that are adorned with lingering melodies, eclectic textures, and melancholic moods.
