Event description

Feeling stuck because of lockdown? Get your mojo back by moving your body and shifting your mind.

Join Alex as he dances with you in this exhilarating hiphop and street dance inspired series, and shake loose those covid cobwebs. This is an intimate, mindful and safe sessions of mojo-motivating activities tailored to be more than just a dance session.

Many of these sessions will involve philosophical discussions and some written exercises with the purpose of opening our minds to new ways of thinking and turn into moving.

“The key to moving differently is with everything else. We move how we feel, think and do.”Alex Gray

In this series, we will:

  • Have the opportunity to play and have fun with dance
  • Learn the basic foundation of dance and musicality
  • Explore natural movements and everyday patterns to help you move
  • Discover how to tap into spontaneity and find your flow
  • Learn about focus and control when moving with music
  • Bring your ideas and imagination to life through movement

You will walk away from each session:

  • Feeling inspired to 'create movement' in your life and become unstuck
  • Bringing your mojo back into doing the things that matter to you
  • Having more confidence in dancing and moving your body
  • Gaining life wisdom and new ways of thinking through dance

PROGRAM

Mondays at 5:30-6:30pm
19th October, 26th October, 2nd November, 9th November, 16th November & 23rd November 2020

Session 1 - Intro: Dance to be Different In this first immersive hour long session we will explore some basic foundations and to help set us up with some great footing and listening for the next 5 workshops.

Session 2 - Natural Mojo Take a breath and enjoy this second session with some fresh air as we explore something deep and natural about these every day patterns and movements!

Session 3 - Controlled Mojo This session is about keeping things basic while taking things to the next step in noticing our focus of control, when moving our bodies with the music. What are we easily able to control and what requires a bit more focus.

Session 4 Conceptual Mojo Bring your ideas and imaginations to life in this fourth coming session! Get ready to turn your inspirations into movement and movement into inspirations!

Session 5 - Flowjo Mojo This session is all about tapping into spontaneity without any help from our pre-frontal cortex aka brains. We will be looking to unlock the essence of finding our mojo through 'flowjo'.

Session 6 - Inspired Mojo It’s now time to put everything we have learned into one session and have some playful fun!

Sessions are suitable for all levels including absolute beginners.

All workshops are self-paced and directed. We request that participants with any injuries or mobility challenges please adapt to their situations and of course request Alex’s assistance in class when and if needed.
