Workshop Overview

This monoprint workshop introduces participants to the exciting process of monoprinting using acrylic paint and glass surfaces. Inspired by the atmospheric works of Mark Rothko, students will explore creating prints in both black and white and color. The workshop emphasizes the creative journey and experimentation in printmaking.

Workshop Objectives

Learn the basics of monoprinting using acrylic paint.

• Explore creating atmospheric prints in the style of Mark Rothko.

• Develop skills in using rollers and drawing on paper pressed on glass.

• Emphasize the process and enjoyment of creative experimentation.

Workshop Schedule

11:00 AM - 11:30 AM: Introduction and Setup

Welcome and overview of the workshop.

• Introduction to materials and tools.

• Brief demonstration of monoprinting techniques.

11:30 AM - 12:30 PM: Monoprinting Basics

Preparing the glass surface with acrylic paint using rollers.

• Techniques for drawing on paper pressed on the painted glass.

• Creating initial black and white prints.

• Group discussion and sharing of first prints.

12:30 PM - 1:00 PM: Lunch Break

Participants are encouraged to bring a packed lunch or snacks.

1:00 PM - 2:00 PM: Exploring Color

Introduction to using color in monoprints.

• Mixing and layering colors on the glass surface.

• Creating color prints inspired by Rothko’s atmospheric style.

• Experimentation with different color combinations and effects

2:00 PM - 3:00 PM: Creative Exploration and Final Projects

Cost: $100 (plus $25 payable to the instructor for materials)

At the end of the course there will be an exhibition of students’ work at the Georgetown Book Hill Library.



About Sarah S. Bazmehri

Sarah studied fine arts at the renowned art school in Paris, France (École Supérieure Des Beaux Arts - Paris, France), and Graphic Design at University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC). She’s an accomplished artist, educator and curator.
