Fourteen years ago, the region faced the harsh reality of its vulnerability to extreme weather, sparking massive recovery efforts like the Build It Back program to repair neighborhoods and fortify infrastructure.

Expert speakers will break down the storm's impact across specific neighborhoods and individual buildings, evaluating the repairs and preventative measures implemented since. The conversation will also examine the broader landscape of climate funding and government intervention required to safeguard NYC's future against escalating climate threats.

Presenter details:

Stephanie Canzani

Stephanie Canzani is the Chief Operating Officer of The Community Preservation Corporation (CPC). With nearly two decades of experience in multifamily finance, Stephanie brings a wealth of knowledge in loan administration, compliance, asset management, relationship management, and technology to the CPC executive team.  Following Hurricane Sandy, Stephanie took on the role of overseeing CPC’s administration of $45 million in HUD disaster recovery funds through the Build It Back Multifamily program. Her responsibilities included program design, operational oversight, community outreach, and coordination with government and nonprofit partners.

Andy Padian

Andy Padian is the Sr. Director of Building Science at the Association for Energy Affordability in the Bronx.  He has 40 years of experience in the building and energy fields, and was a Chief Construction Manager for much of the multifamily Build It Back work on the Lower East Side, Rockaway, Hunter’s Point, Staten Island, and elsewhere across New York City.
