Mooloolah River Landcare: "Connections, Naturally! Skills for Life" Program Launch - Seniors Month 2026
Description
Mooloolah River Landcare is kicking off a special program - Connections, Naturally! Skills for Life - this October as part of Seniors Month. This first event focuses on social connections, and will serve as a platform for participants to get to know each other, share their stories (if they wish), and learn more about the program and future planned events.
This event will be held in MRL's Seed Pod (our community hub), where we will explore resources available to our community, designed to assist with overall wellbeing. Join with like minded individuals and share our love of nature, learning about the environment and getting outdoors. Of course this event would not be complete without a FREE shared cuppa and morning tea!
Queensland Queensland Seniors Month is coming this October! This year's theme, Connect and Celebrate, is all about bringing people together. Strong communities are connected communities, and Queensland Seniors Month is an opportunity to celebrate older Queenslanders while creating meaningful connections with family, friends and the wider community.
The Connections, Naturally program will host a series of events between now and May 2027. Details will be available at the program launch. However, we can reveal that each will be themed relating to the environment and what we do here at MRL in some way.
Wildlife connections (November 2026) – We will show how we can all contribute to citizen science in various ways. With a focus on birds and butterflies, we will explain how to identify and record wildlife observations in different situations. Conducting a bird/ butterfly survey in the field will reinforce this learning for participants.
Organisation connections (early 2027) – Let’s explore! There are various opportunities to get involved in volunteering, events and workshops happening at Landcare and bush care type organisations within our community. This event will involve a visit to a local conservation park/ bushcare area, with a fellow environmental organisation.
Plant connections (March 2027) – Learning to identify native plants and how they grow is a lifelong journey! This workshop will focus on local native plants, their diversity and how they grow, and will involve a field excursion to a nearby location to do some seed collecting and share morning tea.
Outdoor connections (May 2027) – Getting out and about! There are many conservation reserves, parks and botanical gardens in our region, and this field trip will explore one of them – learning more of the habitat and relationships within the ecosystem that make it unique. We will also look into what other local facilities and walking trails are available, encouraging participants to get outdoors and be more active more often.
Throughout October, hundreds of events will be held across Queensland #QldSeniorsMonth #ConnectCelebrate #QueenslandSeniorsMonth #CommunityConnection #HealthyAgeing
MRL's Connections, Naturally! Skills for Life Program is made possible thanks to the support of the Council of the Ageing Queensland.
