Moomins: Grief, Comfort & Loss

Through a closer look at the story arcs of some of the Moomin characters – particularly those of Toft and Toffle – this talk discusses the profound poignancy of the representation of fear, anxiety, grief, loss, change, and comfort in Tove Janssen’s Moomins series. In this public online lecture we focus on the story books, as we walk with our characters through moments of loneliness, loss, hope and transformation. We invite you to join us as we explore texts such as Who Will Comfort Toffle? and Moomin Valley in November. This talk is delivered by Dr Nicola Allen and introduced by Dr Helen Davies.

This talk is suitable for people aged 14+ and deals with themes such as anxiety, loss, and grief.

Dr Nicola Allen has taught literature for over twenty years, including children’s literature and literature of the early twentieth century at Birmingham City University, the University of Northampton and the University of Wolverhampton.

Dr Helen Davies is an independent researcher, having previously worked at Leeds Beckett University, Teesside University, Newman University and the University of Wolverhampton.
