Event description
This Trans led pole dance workshop is an invitation to reconnect with your body, move with joy, and explore the art of pole dancing in a space created specifically for trans, non-binary, and gender-diverse people. We will open with a discussion going into the history of pole dancing, set intentions on how to navigate the workshop mentally and physically then begin with slow movement until by the end of it you will have been taught beginner tricks and a little pole dance routine.
We want to create a space for people who feel too scared and uncomfortable to learn pole dancing due to it’s tendency of having a standardised look that can feel alienating for those who don't meet that look. This, accompanied by the lack of visibility for trans and gender non-conforming dancers, can make it hard to even take that very first step - showing up. We want to shift these common perceptions through our workshop and by giving those who complete it, the opportunity to perform at our future events.
This project is supported by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland.
