Moth Night: Citizen Science and the Atomic Choir
Event description
Pull on some warm clothes and bring your picnic blanket to join scientists from the University of Sydney and the Learning by Doing project for an evening exploring moths and other magnificent creatures of the night.
During the evening you will be invited to participate in citizen science using the iNaturalist citizen science app, sharing your observations with other scientists from around the world. You will also have the unique experience of joining the Atomic Choir; to collectively create a soundscape inspired by our moth observations (no prior music skills or instruments required!).
As night falls, we will gather at the Chemistry Courtyard to spot our local urban biodiversity. Screens will be set up and UV-lights will be turned on to entice moths and other wildlife for us to observe while contributing to citizen science and creating soundscapes that celebrate the biodiversity of our local environment.
Free entry suitable for all ages and very family friendly. Limited tickets available so grab yours while you can! BYO picnic.
Please keep in mind that this event is weather-dependent and may be rescheduled or cancelled due to unfavourable weather conditions. We will let you know of any changes via email and text on the event day.
