Event description

Performing under the moniker MOTTE as her solo persona, Anita Clark is a violinist, composer and producer, based in Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland, NZ.

MOTTE primarily uses violin, voice, theremin and sampled sound/field recordings, creating richly textured sound beds to convey otherworldly landscapes and preternatural impressions. Motte's compositions are evocative and cinematic; their fluid nature giving an illusory effect of bending and stretching time. Her sound can fit somewhere on a scale of modern classical to noise, ambient to experimental pop, using artful layering and structure to provide breathing space for improvisation and experimentation.

She has released three solo albums since 2015, 'Songs For Movies' -self released/Melted Icecream, 'Strange Dreams' -CocoMuseRecords and 'Cold + Liquid' -BaDaBing! Records.

Anita composes music for film, movement and dance, notably producing work for; the Royal New Zealand Ballet, the NZ Dance Company, Movement of the Human (MOTH), Movement Art Practice (MAP) and COLOSSAL. Anita’s first short film soundtrack for ‘Shadows’ (AUS/SUI) was premiered at Cannes Film Festival 2019, and her feature length score for NZ documentary ‘Building Bridges - Bill Youren’s Vision Of Peace’ was awarded 'Outstanding Excellence for Original Score’ from Docs Without Borders Film Festival and was featured in the NZ Film Festival 2023.

Currently she performs with Don McGlashan, the Luke Buda band and Holly Arrowsmith.
