Mount Disappointment Tag Along Tour

In 1824, explorers Hume and Hovell climbed Mt Disappointment hoping to see Port Phillip Bay. All they saw was forest, and that's how the mountain got its name. Two hundred years on, the forest on our doorstep holds a lot more than most locals realise.

Join local expert and UPMCLG member Tammo Frisch for a guided self-drive tour of the places and stories of Mt Disappointment. You bring the car, and Tammo leads the convoy and tells the stories at each stop. You can join or drop off at any stage. Details will be provided when you register

Where we'll go

• Blairs Hut and the summit walk. An easy one-hour loop in the footsteps of Hume and Hovell.

• No. 1 Camp. A picnic lunch on the site of a WWII forestry camp that housed Italian prisoners of war.

• The Quartz kilns. A rare reminder of the gold rush era in the forest.

• Strath Creek Falls

• Murchison Gap a spectacular view across the valley of 1,000 hills
