Mountain Writers’ Festival returns to the Macedon Ranges in 2026, celebrating stories that deepen our relationship with place through our enduring theme ‘Nature. Place. Story.’ Through conversations, workshops, performances and immersive events, the festival brings together readers, writers, artists and thinkers for a weekend of stories shaped by nature, place and community. The festival brings acclaimed Australian writers including Bob Brown, Debra Dank, Tony Birch, Maxine Beneba Clarke, Omar Musa, Jac Semmler, Victor Steffensen and more to be announced into conversation with local and regional voices. Set at the foot of Geboor (Mount Macedon) on Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country across three days Friday 13 - Sunday 15 November, Mountain Writers Festival offers a literary festival experience unlike any other. An early bird pass will get you access to the full festival weekend, including the Opening Night Gala and the weekend talks program, with more than 20 curated sessions featuring some of Australia’s best-loved and most engaging writers, thinkers and artists. Early bird passes save you 15% on the full festival experience, and weekend passholders also receive a 10% discount to individually ticketed feature events and workshops.

Featuring environmental and social justice campaigner Bob Brown, award-winning author and educator Debra Dank, author, poet, rapper, and visual artist, and winner of the 2026 Miles Franklin Award and Victorian Premier’s Literary Award for Fiction Omar Musa, poet, essayist and creative writing teacher Andy Jackson and acclaimed author of author of over fifteen books for adults and children Maxine Beneba Clarke. Plus, a special musical performance by American cellist widely recognized not just for her virtuosic performances, but as a “fearless explorer” in her field (Chicago Reader), Mariel Roberts Musa. Hosted by beloved broadcaster and writer Jacinta Parsons.
