Morning Session - FINDING THE FLOOR - 10am-12pm
Finding the Floor is a dynamic movement workshop for those looking to improve their floorwork skills and expand their movement vocabulary; rolling, falling, and techniques to help us transition in and out of the the floor, whether standing on our feet or hands.
This workshop will be led by Angi Bowles, and draws on her background in Capoeira Angola, Aikido, acrobatics, contemporary dance, the Axis Syllabus, contact improvisation, and Fighting Monkey practice.
We will start with a thorough warm up, conditioning, drilling skills and pathways, and progressively play with a variety of possibilities available to us within when responding to dynamic situations.
We will be taking advantage of the soft, lightly cushioned flooring in the main studio space at Integral, as well as crash mats on occasion.
If you're already a dance, floorwork, or acrobatic aficionado, fantastic. And if you're new to these practices but very curious, join in!Ā This workshop is quite dynamic, though open to all levels of experience, with movement regressions and progressions available. Every exercise is given as an invitation; everyone is encouraged to listen to what their own body needs in that moment, and participate according to their capacity.
Break - 12pm-2pm
We will close the studio to either go to a nearby cafe for food, or head to Curl Curl beach for some rest and an optional swim.
Afternoon Session - 2pm-5pm
We will begin this afternoon session with a focused Contact Improvisation jam, hosted by Lillian Donnell. We will have music, but otherwise will be in silence.
At 3:30pm, we will move into a contact improvisation laboratory - an open space where we can continue to jam, or deliberately explore and play with our particular interests and curiosities in CI. We also have the option to explore CI and movement with the use of props:Ā gymnastic boxes, dowels, and swiss balls.
Please note that the afternoon session is only for those who already have some experience with contact improvisation (e.g. you have previously attended at least 4-5 contact improv classes), and are familiar with jam etiquette and safety.
