ADC Mature Program | Creative Workshop Series
Description
The Embodied Expressive Edge
A 4-day experiential workshop for adults aged 50+, where creativity meets contemplative practice and somatic movement.
How do we stay alive to possibility, keep our minds sharp and our emotions steady? Research in neuroscience and contemplative science points to a surprising answer: the way we move, pay attention and create.
Choreographers and dancers have long understood the benefits of sensation-aware movement. Now, research from the University of Pittsburgh suggests that regular, mindful movement can effectively reverse age-related shrinkage of the hippocampus — the brain region that plays an important role in our spatial memory and creative thinking.
In this workshop series we will explore somatic awareness, contemplative practices and how these can open us to new ways of approaching creativity in dance.
