Jonathan is the conference convenor for "Shifting Terrain" the 2026 50th Anniversary MSA National Conference and is the current WA Chapter President of the MSA.

Background

Associate Professor Jonathan Paget is the Associate Dean (Head) of Music at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, Edith Cowan University. He has led the classical guitar program since 2005 and was Associate Dean Research for some six years. A Fulbright and Hackett scholar, his research has explored Peter Sculthorpe, the Australian guitar, historical performance, early recordings, and the Romantic guitar. In 2018, Jonathan convened the national conference of the Musicological Society of Australia, and in 2023 he became a founding member of WAAPA’s research centre for “Keyboard Heritage and Performance Research.” Jonathan regularly performs on modern and period guitars, giving concerts across Australia, the USA, and Asia. He has released two solo CDs as well one with Silver Sands Guitar Quartet, who recently toured France to considerable acclaim. Reviews describe his playing as “tasteful and considered” (Limelight, 2025) and “impressively virtuosic,” (Limelight, 2022).
