Swap the everyday for alpine adventures this summer! Our free guided walks are the perfect way to make the most of your holidays in the mountains. Starting Saturday January 4 and running every week until early February, you’ll have the chance to explore one or all of five iconic Mt Hotham trails.
With options for all ages and abilities, whether it’s a peaceful Summit Walk or a more challenging afternoon hike, each step will connect you with stunning views, local wildlife, hidden gems and your fellow walkers. Breathe in the crisp alpine air, uncover the history of the mountain, and escape into untamed nature.
All you need are your walking shoes, an adventurous spirit, and a love for the great outdoors!
Summit Walk
Distance: 2.5km
Difficulty: Suitable for Beginners.
This walk will take you to the Mt Hotham summit, where atop sits the Hotham fire lookout tower and some of the most photogenic views 360-degree views to be found in the region.

Spargo's Hut Walk
Distance:10km
Difficulty: Moderate. Bushwalking experience and a reasonable level of fitness recommended.
Follow a ridgeline with views of Mt Hotham, Mt Feathertop and the High Plains to one of the oldest intact structures in the resort - Spargo's Hut. This State Heritage registered building has been described as the Mawson’s Hut of the Australian Alps. It was built by prospector Bill Spargo and his brother Cecil in 1927-8 for Bill’s prospecting and mining activities in the Golden Point area. The hut is a survivor of the 1939, 2003 and 2013 bushfires.

Mt Loch and Derrick Hut Walk
Distance: 11km.
Difficulty: Moderate - Hard. Bushwalking experience and a reasonable level of fitness recommended.
Walk out to the Mount Loch summit and enjoy the impressive views of the High Plains, Mount Hotham, and the rugged east face of Mount Feathertop. Taking a detour along the Australian Alps Walking Track and the Mt Hotham Huts Walk to Derrick Hut, a day shelter built for ski tourers by the Wangaratta Ski Club in 1967 that is nestled in a sheltered hollow and among beautiful snow gums.

How do I get there?
You'll find a Mt Hotham located along the Great Alpine Road between Harrietville and Omeo. Mt Hotham is accessible from two directions via the Great Alpine Road all year round. Find out more about getting here by clicking here.
Are the walks kid-friendly?
Yes! With a range of walk options, we recommend the Summit Walk for little legs, as they are shorter and less steep.
