Event description

At this Morning Tea with Mark, Taiko drummer Mark Alcock joins us for an online energiser like no other! He'll get you moving, learning something new and having fun - all through Japanese Taiko Drumming.

The ongoing pandemic has inspired Mark and his company Rhythmworks to take the best of his thunderous face-to-face Taiko team-building workshops and, through innovative use of Zoom and video, bring them online for teams all over the world.

Long a student of the Taiko drum, Mark's focus is on harnessing the commitment, mutual awareness, support, trust and enthusiasm required for a great Taiko performance - the same principles that unite successful teams in business.

Building on the incredibly well received 'do well, be well' Morning Tea with Wendy Chen a couple of months ago, Mark Alcock will show you how he energises teams, connects and inspires them to work together more effectively. Just what we need right now!

About Mark Alcock:

Mark first studied traditional Japanese Taiko drumming with the Tennon Daiko drummers of Wakayama prefecture in Southern Japan. His teachers included Katsuji Kondo, former front man of the world famous Kodo drummers. On his return to the UK in 1994, he was an original member of Mugenkyo, and played with Taiko master Joji Hirota for ten years.

Mark uses Taiko drumming principals and techniques in performance, education and the corporate world:

- He set up the first hands-on Taiko workshops in UK schools, travels all over the country delivering workshops and projects to schools, and helps them to set up their own ongoing youth Taiko clubs.

- He currently leads and composes for London’s Taiko Meantime, one of the foremost Taiko drumming ensembles in the UK.

- Mark founded Rhythmworks in 2000 and has been working with leading organisations ever since to build successful teams through Taiko.
