Our Community House is a 7-minute walk from Fairfield Station which is on the T2 line.If you are driving the nearest car parks are: Downey Lane Car Park: Located off Kenyon Street, Fairfield which offers 2-hour free parking on a Saturday and a 1-2 minute walk from the Community House. There is also disability parking.Barbara/Harris Street Car Park: Located at the corner of Barbara Street and Harris Street, Fairfield which offers 3-hour free parking on a Saturday and 1-2 minute walk from the Community House. There is also disability parking.On-street Parking: There is some free parking on the streets of Fairfield but they are typically for restricted hours - ordinarily 1-hour.

We have a step-free entry and our doorways have a 1 metre clearance which will remain open throughout the event. We have one restroom available on site that is an accessible restroom with a grab rail and adequate turning space. Should you have any other access needs do not hesitate to contact us!

Did you know?

Western SYD is home to over 100+ languages and the largest urban First Nations population in the country, making it one of the most culturally and linguistically diverse regions in Australia.

In collaboration with Think+DO Tank, SPEAKINGTRUTH is taking over 40 Harris Street, Fairfield on Saturday October 24 for Multi-lingual 4 Eva - inviting young people especially to celebrate linguistic diversity, think about what multiculturalism means on Aboriginal land and learn from multilingual creatives who celebrate language in their practice. Come as you are!

SPEAKINGTRUTH is a First Nations-led multilingual project, working to make truth-telling accessible with multilingual and multicultural communities in mind. We welcome anyone eager to learn and start conversations.

What can you do?

Engage in our zine maker station, including access to multilingual zines and posters in 12 languages;
Bring some clothes to up-cycle or create a tapestry with our pre-cut fabric to screenprint ‘We all live on Aboriginal land’ in 6 languages (Vietnamese, Arabic, Cantonese, Spanish, Farsi, Mandarin) at our printing station, and;

Listen to talks from First Nations and migrant creatives on celebrating their language in graphic design, picture books, poetry, screen-printing and zines.

The day is about celebrating our communities, hearing from a diversity of creatives and unpacking different approaches to sharing our cultures.

On-site there will be drinks and sweets available to purchase through cafe WAYWAY, a menu featuring iced long blacks/matcha/iced chocolate and herbal teas featuring native ingredients.

RSVP needed to estimate ink and drinks needed on the day.

This event is FREE TO ATTEND, however there are two ticket options at check-out:

$15 paid tier that comes with a goodie bag to pick up on the day

There is also a donation tier at check-out for anyone who can't make the event IRL but still wants to support.

11:40-12:00 - Why we will never screen-print in English (for free) w/ SPEAKINGTRUTH

Screen-printing was never intended to be a core part of our practice but it’s ended up being the thing that’s had the most impact. Listen in to hear the deep dive on our approach to printing, what we choose to omit from the design and why English will not be in our rotation.

12:30-1:30 - Style Guide: How multilingual creatives make and break the rules

Hear from four diverse (and mainly Westie-based) creatives who embed their practice with language and put a spin on their cultural iconography. Find out how they approach translation (or lack thereof), cross-cultural engagement and celebration of their identities.

2:00-2:15 Circling Back: Guided reflections and takeaways w/ SPEAKINGTRUTH

Work through a guided reflection, summarising the key points raised across the day and offering time to yarn what you're taking away from this space.

Since 2013, Think+DO Tank Foundation (TDTF) has been working within local communities in low-income parts of South Western and Western Sydney, co-creating artistic projects and social enterprises in which creativity and collaboration are a driving force. At Think+DO Tank Foundation we start from a position of strength. We know our collaborators are among the lowest socio-economic and most marginalised people in Australia today. We know the severe COVID lockdowns in 2021 took their toll. We also know there is an enormous wealth of lived experience, professional and cultural knowledge, languages, faiths and cultures that enrich and inform every project we co-create. We create our programs together because they change lives for the better - and for the long term.
