Muse Presents: Carrie
Description
Set in the present day in the small New England town of Chamberlain, Maine, Carrie: The Musical 2012,(Music by Michael Gore, Lyrics by Dean Pitchford, Book by Lawrence D. Cohen) is based on the novel by Stephen King tells the story of Carrie White, a high school student tormented by her peers. At home, she is raised by a seemingly loving mother; but in reality, Margaret is haunted by her past, and therefore is merciless and possessive, leaving Carrie isolated from the world.
When Carrie’s desperate efforts to fit in with her peers become futile, Carrie suddenly discovers that she has telekinetic powers. Emanating from a rapid, yet warranted, magnification of her emotions, her telekinesis results in a dramatic ending to the senior prom. This production depicts the heartbreaking impact of adolescent bullying and how environments and relationships, external to the bullying, take young people to breaking point.
The 2012 revival version reframes a story of horror to one of a cautionary commentary on bullying, and more specifically, the impact of a bystander’s silence. The immortalized message of this never-ending nightmare loop; it doesn’t cost anything to be kind, but there are devastating cost to not being kind.
See our amazing alternate cast take on their leading roles on Thursday night and Saturday matinee!
Please note, the couple seats closest to the walls on either side, and the first row of seats, have a partially obstructed view of the stage.
