** RESCHEDULED** Mushroom Growing 101: Everything After the Petri Dish: Part Two of a Series on Mushroom Cultivation

Event description

Part two of the Mushroom Cultivation series will cover the other steps of the process involved in basic mushroom cultivation. Participants will learn the basics of making mushroom spawn and the important roles that spawn plays in the overall process of growing mushrooms. Participants will also learn about bulk substrates, and how to choose and prepare different types of substrates based on what type(s) of mushrooms they want to grow. Aside from how to prepare all of the materials needed to grow mushrooms, we will also go over how to set up the proper environmental conditions necessary to encourage the growth of those prized “fruits.”

Attendees will get to take mushroom spawn and a fruiting block of their own home with them.

If you are not able to make it to the first of the two workshops do not fret! You will still leave with enough knowledge and information to be able to grow your own mushrooms at home.

**Scholarship Information**
These workshops will cost $65 each. To provide an equitable experience within our community, we will be awarding (5) scholarships to community members who self identify as members of historically underserved and marginalized communities. Scholarships will be awarded via email on August 5th, 2024.
Please apply for scholarships here.

Aubrey Inkster
is a mycologist/community scientist specializing in mushroom cultivation. In the past he has worked in research laboratories focusing on urban forestry and environmental engineering at the University of Delaware, and most recently spent a year working as a laboratory technician in an industrial-scale spawn lab in Kennett Square, PA. His current interest is in learning how to extract and sequence DNA from mushrooms that he has cultured from the wild in order to contribute to the greater understanding of fungal biodiversity around us.
