Event description
Music at the Rotunda in the beautiful Rotorua Government Gardens, is back thanks to the Rotorua Trust, Music Rotorua charitable trust and Rotorua lakes Council!
We've shuffled the schedule a bit so check below to see who is on when :)
Entry is free, but your koha will be gratefully accepted.
Bring your picnic, rug or chair to make your afternoon more comfortable but, don't bring your wine or other favourite alcoholic bevy as there is an alcohol ban. We have the Lil Yellow Cafe pumping out the coffee and Stone Soup scooping out real fruit ice cream to make your outing complete!
Travel by bike - Rotorua Lakes Council have promised bike parking to make your day easier!
FEBRUARY CONCERTS
2 February
1 pm Kelly Makiha
A seasoned and sought-after singer and guitarist who has provided entertainment for hundreds of events, private functions and conferences in the Rotorua area during the past 25 years. She is booked weekly as a soloist but still works frequently with her long-standing four-piece Rotorua band, Count Me In.
2 pm Peri Grant
Long time Rotorua blues harp and multi instrumentalist, performer often seen in Eat Streat, at the Blues Club and other live music venues around town
16 February
1 pm Max Tuballa
Max is a multi-instrumentalist and composer who recently completed her Diploma in Music at Toi Ohomai. She has performed at a variety of events including Lakeside, CrankWorx, Multicultural festival and more and is back for her 2nd Music at the Rotunda
2 pm Krissie Knapp
Born here in our beautiful city of Rotorua. Krissie has been entertaining people since she was very young. Firstly on stage at the Rotorua International Hotel doing Maori Concerts, then magically on stage at the Tudor Towers Night Club in the 90's. Krissie has been in numerous bands and decided to become a solo entertainer in 1999. She has performed with some great entertainers and hung out on many a stage both here in Aotearoa and overseas. You may recognize Krissie from 8 Scott Ave the musical and sequel, Lakeside and most recently at Wai Ariki Spa for Waitangi For the Love Of The People.
23 February
1 pm City of Rotorua Highland Pipe Band
The much looked forward to performance by our own city's band. Fancy joining them? New members are welcome.
2 pm Grace and Ian
Two young local muso's who enjoy performing acoustic versions of pop and r&b songs, and are looking forward to playing at Music at the Rotunda for the first time! You may have caught them at The Arts Village or at Art in the Park.
MARCH CONCERTS
2 March
1 pm Jack Grace
Jack began his love of music at Rotorua Intermediate school with a passion for old ballad singers such as Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett and Mel Torme. He has had a 30 year career in music, including sharing the stage with childhood idols, international artists Tom Jones and Engelbert Humperdink.
2 pm Sweet As
A unique sounding acoustic trio band, based in Bay of Plenty NZ. We have a selection of easy listening music from a variety of genres across many decades. We are "Sweet As."
9 March
1 pm Rewa Ututaonga
Long time Rotorua entertainer with a beautiful voice
2 pm Simply Random
A duo from Reporoa, with a combination of acoustic guitars and vocals. They'll perform in a variety of genres across several decades; including traditional, folk/country, old time as well as modern music. Grant & Marjo have been performing together for a few years now; providing entertainment at birthday parties, wedding receptions, special functions, community events and celebrations.
16 March
1 pm Theory 89
60s, 70s and more, blues and cover band
2 pm Lloyd Akroyd
Singer songwriter/musician from Rotorua with a voice reminiscent of Bill Withers/Aloe Blacc yet with his own distinct sound. He’ll give you his all!
23 March
1 pm Now N Then
Playing music from both now and back then, with the majority of music from the 60s, 70s and onwards
2 pm Nikau Grace
Super talented hard working young singer songwriter punching way above her weight; already recording and facing a bright future ahead
30 March
1 pm Rotorua Symphonic Band
This concert band of local musicians is all about fostering musicianship and providing
enjoyment for us, the Rotorua public. They promise a diverse program of music and that we'll
revel in the variety of the instruments played. Come and soak up the atmosphere and see what
the Rotorua Symphonic Band is all about! You may even want to join.
2 pm Bobby Howard
Embraces the joy of performing jazz standards and beloved classics. "It’s not just about the music, it’s about giving back, celebrating live performance, and sharing the love for music that has shaped her journey"
