Music of Joy and Compassion
Event description
This is the second fundraising concert WAGO has presented to support the Perth Homeless Support Group. We intend to make this an annual event. In this recital we present original music and arrangements by Orchestra members, and by Samuel Barber, Paul Svoboda and more. We are joined by WAGO Training Orchestra, who are doing great things! Their ensemble will be performing a broad selection of works including well-loved Spanish, South American and Australian music. There will be wine and food available at the concert.
WAGO is a volunteer guitar orchestra that combines fundraising for charity with performing a combination of traditional and original music. Our members are involved in arranging and writing music for the orchestra and vary from enthusiastic amateurs to tertiary students and professional teachers and performers.
WAGO is directed by composer and guitarist Jane Darcey, who has been teaching classical guitar for 50 years, recently completed a Master of Arts at WAAPA and is now enrolled in the PhD program.
For more information, contact the CGSWA at www.guitarwa.com.au, or Jane Darcey directly - janedarcey@iinet.net.au
The WAGO rehearses every Thursday during the school term from 7 to 9pm at the IMMS centre ( see address below).
WAGO TRAINING ORCHESTRA
The Classical Guitar Society of WA began its Training Orchestra program in April, 2023. Convenor and Director for the rehearsals and workshops is teacher and former WAAPA lecturer Peter Altmeier-Mort.
Its purpose is multi-functional:
(1) to prepare and train potential players who may wish to join the main WAGO Orchestra.
(2) to provide a forum for keen amateur players (beginner to intermediate level) to develop the reading and technical skills necessary in ensemble playing.
(3) to provide occasions for public performance with the whole group,
(3) and provide the opportunity to meet, play, and socialize with other guitar players!
The activities are held on the last Saturday of each month and are open to any public - attendees are welcome to participate as a player or observer at any time.
Cost is $5 per person for each rehearsal, and refreshments are provided.
WHEN
The last Saturday of each calendar month - 2pm to 4pm.
WHERE
The IMSS centre (WA Ed. Dept. Instrumental Music School Services) 150 Guildford Road, Maylands 6051. Entry is via Peninsula Rd and Sixth Ave - plenty of parking on the premises.
