The Raukatauri Music Therapy Trust has been operating Aotearoa’s only dedicated music therapy centres since our founding in 2004 by Dame Hinewehi Mohi. We are Aotearoa’s largest employer of Registered Music Therapists and provide this life-changing service to a wide variety of people with disabilities or mental health conditions. Our mission is to offer a quality, accessible music therapy service to all people, whatever their needs. Our vision is to enrich and develop lives through music.
Our charitable model means that we subsidise every single one of our sessions to reduce access barriers, from 40% all the way up to 94%. But with no direct Government funding, we need to raise over $2 million every year to make that happen. By engaging with our event, you'll be contributing to this mission, transforming lives through music by your generosity!
We work with approximately 900 people each and every week of all ages, backgrounds, needs, and experiences. Because music therapy is accessible and adaptive to all needs, our mahi is capable of reducing isolation for participants and whānau, in addition to supporting various individual aspirations, no matter what the circumstances. These include developing communication skills, social skills, learning outcomes, emotional regulation, and many other examples.
Our onsite sessions take place at our three Regional Centres in Auckland, Hastings, and Whangārei. Across the Northland, Auckland, and Hawke’s Bay regions, we also work in partnership with approximately 70 different organisations such as schools, hospitals, and prisons. We also operate satellites in some of the further flung areas of these regions, insuring those who live less centrally also have the opportunity to access the support they need.
