Mutts of the Planet - Performing the Music of Joni Mitchell
Event description
Experience Mutts of the Planet Live: A Tribute to Joni Mitchell
The world-renowned Joni Mitchell tribute band Mutts of the Planet, featuring vocalist Robin Adler, was formed in San Diego in 2006 with the sole purpose of presenting the vast repertoire of Canadian legend Joni Mitchell through its many incarnations across four decades. They have performed around the world and received accolades from audiences far and wide, and the appreciation of Joni herself. The Mutts have performed six of Mitchell’s albums in their entirety and released two of their own original arrangements, and have nearly 60 concert YouTube videos uploaded.
Joni Mitchell’s work grew from her early “solo guitar and voice” appearances into ground-breaking collaborations with some of the top artists in the world, from the worlds of jazz and rock in particular. Appropriately, the full line-up of Mutts of the Planet comprises some of the finest musicians currently playing on the west coast.
- Robin Adler - lead vocals
- Dave Blackburn - guitars and vocals, music director
- Barnaby Finch - piano and keyboards
- Jamie Kime - electric guitars
- Duncan Moore – drums
- Jim Reeves - bass
Testimonials
“Probably the best Joni Mitchell cover band around. I love that you really do the whole catalog, not just the popular.” ~ YouTube comment
"The next best thing to seeing Joni Mitchell herself is catching Mutts of the Planet." ~Robert Bush, jazz critic, San Diego Reader
"Received your Safaris to the Heart: The Songs of Joni Mitchell CD today. This CD is superb!!!!!!!!!! Everything on it is in great taste! The players, the vocals, the charts! Great harmonic concepts & structures!! Each song is done beautifully. You all should be very proud of this. She should hear this. Kudos to all!!!!!!!!!” ~ Max Bennett - Joni Mitchell/L.A Express bassist 1974-77
"Robin Adler is anything but a Joni Mitchell clone. Her voice is not like the stratospheric soprano of Joni’s early work. It does not have the smoky quality of Joni’s later recordings either. It is a unique, nuanced, expressive instrument that is a pleasure to listen to. Somehow, without compromising her own musical personality, she manages to tap into the heart, soul, guts and nerves of Joni Mitchell’s melodies and lyrics.” ~ Mark, fan
