My Beautiful Stutter: NZ Virtual Screening
Event description
Join us for a FREE virtual screening of "My Beautiful Stutter" as the Stuttering Association for the Young Australia (SAY: AU) launches the first Australian summer camp for young people who stutter in January 2023. Skill Builders Speech Language Therapy is proud to support SAY: AU and its vision to support, empower, and educate young people who stutter aged 7-18 years and the world that surrounds them.
The Zoom Meeting Room will open at 7.00pm NZST time with SAY: AU's president Rich Stephens joining in to briefly talk about SAY: AU before we screen "My Beautiful Stutter" at 7.10pm. Rich will also be available for a short 15 minute Q+A for speech language therapists, parents, and family members who are interested to know more about camp.
This event is open to people who stutter, parents of young people who stutter, speech language therapists, and anyone interested in creating a world that understands stuttering.

Movie Summary from IMDB:
The documentary follows five kids who stutter ages 9 to 18, from all over the United States, who after experiencing a lifetime of bullying and stigmatization, meet other children who stutter at an interactive arts-based program, The Stuttering Association for the Young, based in New York City. Their journey to SAY find some close to suicide, others withdrawn and fearful, exhausted and defeated from failed fluency training, societal pressures to not stutter or the decision to remain silent. Over the course of a year we witness first hand the incredible transformation that happens when these young people of wildly different backgrounds experience for the first time the revolutionary idea at the heart of SAY: that it's okay to stutter.
