My Blank Canvas: an Abstract Art workshop

Event description

My Blank Canvas – Painting Abstract Stories

Instructor: Lisa Hollins

Participants will respond abstractly on canvas, quickly and spontaneously to a series of suggestions and various prompts imagining in layered colors, shapes and forms several different memories, situations, experiences, goals, and dreams. Everyone starts with a blank canvas.  No experience is required. You do not need to know how to draw or paint. You will take home three small artworks that you create in this abstract expression workshop.

Artistic Goals:

  • Express Yourself with color and paint, not copying images or photographs.
  • Thoughtful Introspection is key to release creativity.
  • Open yourself to let go of trying to create something perfectly. Enjoy imperfect marks. Be brave, fearless, and escape in eclectic music.
  • Imagine yourself without words or technology. Practice deep breathing and visualization while choosing colors that mean something to you.
  • Discover your Individuality without copying others or comparing your own expression. Learn your own personal aesthetic, then flex it!
  • Be purely visual. Allow yourself the freedom to express thoughts and emotions abstractly without discussion or opinion. Only you truly know the colors and meanings of your abstract painted stories!
  • Practice mixing, dripping, scraping, and
squishing paints to create new colors that are
unique and individual to your own expression.
Give yourself permission to experiment with
    layering, texture, and color.
  • HAVE FUN!!! Don’t over think it.
  • Let your colors flow. Go with the flow!

Class will take place at The Hive gallery by Bee Cave Arts Foundation, located in the Hill Country Galleria, across from H&M and Dillard's!
