Event description

"My darling love" is an evening of dance made by local dance maker Kimberley McIntyre in collaboration with Old Men Dancing (OMD), dancer Colleen Coy, and musician & composer Leif Larkin.

My darling love is many things, as there are many ideas swirling in my head when it comes to dance & the desire to choreograph, make, direct & perform.

'My darling love' were the words my father said so often in the days before he died last year. Precious words... He also said at one point, swirling his finger in the air, 'All's well that ends well.' How everything changed, shifting my world and cracking it open. Dancing in the wake of 'my darling love' is all I can do. It started with the Bolero over summer, the Vagina Conversations in March and now with another Dance Salon.

Dance is art, is healing, is expression, is so many things, & these pieces that are forming are deep & frivolous & dance. It is not a narrative; it is more like feelings in motion, crafted & presented.

The way I am collaborating to make this hour of dance on August 24 is new and exciting to me, and I'm enjoying the challenge of working closely with musician Leif Larkin to compose for most of the pieces. And also the added challenge of having OMD as dancers more embedded in the choreography. I have enjoyed directing Colleen Coy in a solo moment, and I'm also enjoying being stimulated by my dancing community that includes my weekly class, Curious Body, my professional colleagues & everything that goes on in this creative community.

Finally, the show will be lit by the wonderful lighting designer Rich Morrod. I'm so happy to have scored his time to light this work.

I make work slowly and let it swirl in my mind before I can get dancers in the room with me to explore my visions. There is no funding, so a paying audience is essential and very appreciated. I hope you enjoy the show.
