My Voice, My Rights, My Way - Self-Advocacy Workshop Series
Description
My Voice, My Rights, My Way is a series of self-advocacy workshops designed with trans and gender diverse individuals through focus groups back in 2024.
This series of workshop deliveries is exclusively for trans and gender diverse individuals, creating a safer more comfortable environment for trans and gender diverse individuals to learn about self-advocacy in the context of mental health and beyond.
These workshops will occur on the first Sunday of the month for 4 weeks, and will cover the following topics:
Self-Advocacy 101 - 6 September 2026
An introduction to Self-Advocacy, including understanding healthcare rights and maintaining wellbeing.
Communication for Self-Advocacy - 4 October 2026
Focuses on communication for Self-Advocacy, including navigating conflict and identifying barriers to speaking up.
Preparing for Appointments - 1 November 2026
Covers practical strategies for appointments, asking questions about treatment, and using a support person and/or advocate.
Navigating Complaints - 6 December 2026
Supports participants to understand complaint processes, as well as how to prepare and write complaints effectively.
Participants can choose to attend all of these workshops, or choose to come to the workshop/s which cover topics they are most interested in.
The workshops will be facilitated by trans and gender diverse facilitators, so everyone in attendance will be people who identify as trans and gender diverse.

This event is free, but please book a free ticket to help us ensure we have enough resources and facilitators prepared to accommodate everyone who wish to attend.
