The UNAAQ Peace and Security Program invites you to participate in a webinar looking at the Resistance and Peacebuilding: Myanmar, the United Nations and the pathway to peace.

Dr. Phyu Phyu Oo
Dr Phyu Phyu Oo is a Research Fellow at the ARC Centre of Excellence for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (CEVAW) at Griffith University. She holds a Master of Public Health from Johns Hopkins University and a PhD in International Relations from Griffith University. Her research focuses on addressing critical issues related to sexual and gender-based violence in conflict and other crises. With over a decade of experience as a practitioner in development and humanitarian settings across the Asia-Pacific region, she brings both academic expertise and practical insight to her work. Dr Oo was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship in 2014 and a Griffith Postgraduate Scholarship in 2019. Her PhD thesis, Conflict-Related Sexual Violence in Myanmar: The Role of the State, was recognised with the John Legge Thesis Prize for the best thesis in Asian Studies by the Asian Studies Association of Australia.
Lukas Nagel
PhD Candidate in International Relations, Griffith University
PhD candidate, project manager and activist with background in Asian Studies, Political Science and applied Peace Work. Passion for conflict resolution, youth activism, social justice, gender equality and sustainable cooperation. Experience in collaborative projects in intercultural teams, analytical planning and data secure, outcome- oriented and progressive research.
Htet Htet Aung (Emily)
Mentor / Skills for Working in a Conflict-Affected Area Course, The University of Queensland
Htet Htet Aung @ Emily is a recent graduate in Peace Studies from the University of Queensland, with a strong background in political science and applied peace work. She is an active member of the National Unity Government (NUG) Support Group in Queensland, advocating for Myanmar’s ousted democratic government in exile. Htet Htet is deeply committed to social justice, human rights, reconciliation, and sustainable development, with significant experience in developing and implementing strategies to engage governmental and non-governmental stakeholders.
With an in-depth understanding of the human rights and justice issues in Myanmar, particularly since the military coup of 2021, she recognizes that addressing these challenges requires concerted efforts from the government, international community, civil society, and human rights organizations. Htet Htet has actively gathered and analyzed data on the crimes against humanity occurring in Myanmar, working with organizations such as Amnesty International Australia, the Youth Core Group on Atrocity Prevention, and the Asia-Pacific Centre for Responsibility to Protect at the University of Queensland. Through these efforts, she has successfully influenced and supported stakeholders at local, regional, and international levels.
