Sleep difficulties are common among people with intellectual disability and can have a significant impact on the individual, their family and everyday life.

Join Jessinta Benton, AHPRA-registered occupational therapist and founder of Dream Sleep OT, for an informative and practical session exploring the medical, sensory and regulatory factors that can contribute to sleep difficulties.

The session will explore what to consider when assessing sleep concerns, including when it may be appropriate to speak with a GP about underlying medical factors such as obstructive sleep apnoea, which occurs more frequently in people with Down syndrome.

Jessinta will also explore the relationship between sensory processing, nervous system regulation and sleep, and how understanding an individual’s sensory and regulation needs can help families approach sleep challenges with greater understanding and practical support.

Participants will take away realistic strategies that can be considered and implemented at home, along with a greater understanding of how sleep difficulties can affect the whole family.

There will also be an opportunity to ask questions in a supportive, judgement-free environment.

About our guest speaker, Jessinta Benton:

Jessinta Benton is an AHPRA-registered occupational therapist and founder of Dream Sleep OT, a Perth-based practice specialising in sleep support for neurodivergent children.

Jessinta combines her clinical occupational therapy experience with a focus on sensory processing, nervous system regulation and the individual factors that can influence sleep. Her approach looks beyond bedtime routines to consider the broader needs of the child and family.

Jessinta supports families across Australia through telehealth and provides in-person services across Perth. Dream Sleep OT accepts NDIS, Medicare Chronic Disease Management (CDM) and private health funding.
