Event description

St Clement’s on the Hill is pleased to welcome the Nabanga Ensemble, Vanuatu’s first Youth Orchestra to help raise funds to support Anglicare’s Youth Homelessness Project (https://anglicaresq.org.au/fundraising/youth-homeless-accommodation-build/).

The Nabanga Ensemble began nine years ago at the Lycée Français Le Clézio in Port Vila by its Music Director Barbara Ididier.

Since its creation, the Nabanga Ensemble has offered free music education to more than 70 young people in Port Vila. As Vanuatu’s first youth orchestra, the program has opened doors for students from all walks of life to discover the joy of making music together. Past highlights have included performances for the Australian Governor General’s visit to Vanuatu, the Prime Minister’s Summit, Fête de la Musique, Christmas in the Park, and official ceremonies at the French and Australian Embassies. This concert celebrates a new generation of students as they take their first steps on stage.

The Ensemble will present sensitive interpretations of traditional Vanuatu lullabies, alongside popular hymns and other pieces chosen by the students.

The Ensemble was awarded the Palme d'Honneur from the Agence de l'Enseignement Française à l'Etrangère earlier this year.

In 2024, Barbara Idieder was named a Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Ministry of Culture for her contribution to music education and cultural life in Vanuatu.

Pre-Concert

Wine and cheese will be available for sale at the door from 2:00pm - 2:45pm (sold separately from tickets).
