Nalbinding for Beginners: Rug Making with Maria
Event description
Naalbinding or nålbinding is a way of creating fabric that predates both knitting, weaving and crochet. It means "knottless netting" and is easier and quicker involving just one needle. Samples of naalbinding have been found that are as old as 6500 BCE!
When using this technique for rug-making it's often called Amish knot or toothbrush rugmaking as the old toothbrushes came with a hole making them a perfect nailbilding tool.
What is amazing about this method is that it uses fabric strips cut off from old linen or fabrics, saving them from landfill and giving them a new life. It's quite addictive so soon you might be trawling op shops in search for pretty prints in bed sheets!Â
