Full bio:

Nanny Assis is a Brazilian from Bahia, a master of bossa nova, forro, and a myriad of Afro-Brazilian sounds. He is a New York-based vocalist, instrumentalist, and songwriter. Nanny won Best Male Vocalist at the Brazilian Press Music Awards 2017 and was nominated for Best Show in New York as well as Best Instrumentalist. He is, quite simply, a gifted artist who has recently been awarded the Lifetime Achievement in Brazilian Jazz. He has toured internationally and performed with Paul Simon, Kenny Barron, Vinicius CantuĂĄria, and John Patitucci.

Nanny is an outstanding vocalist, drummer/percussionist, and a talented songwriter who has touched hearts and souls through his music. Anybody that sees Nanny perform immediately feels his rhythms and notes, often transporting audiences, other times energizing them enough to stand up and dance "and sweat until you can't sweat no more," to use Bob Marley's lyrics.

Nanny has finished his new CD recording with Ron Carter on bass and many other great artists. He is currently touring in Istanbul, then heading back to New Zealand. His album Double Rainbow is sold internationally and is a wonderful record showcasing his expertise in Bossa Nova and Brazilian Jazz.

Nanny has been collaborating with vocalist Maggie Gould in New York. Maggie draws her inspiration from Ella Fitzgerald, Astrud Gilberto, Ivan Lins, Chet Baker, and Eliane Elias. Her music is described as soft, sultry vocals with space. Her performances have taken her to festivals such as Tauranga Jazz, Samoa, Monterey, Rome Casa del Jazz Festival, Venice, London clubs, and New York City’s Zinc Jazz. Recently, she performed at Vitello's Jazz in LA and the Port Imperial Jazz Festival in NYC. The LA Times stated that Maggie Gould was made for Bossa Nova, and her sold-out shows at Jazz Forum New York enchant audiences with storytelling and charisma.

Maggie Gould, whose extensive portfolio includes performances with The Orpheus Choir, alongside the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, and winning parts in musical theatre shows Cats and Folies Bergère, has just released her CD Todo Amor at The Blue Note, with music from Jobim, Bernstein, Stevie Wonder, Chet Baker, and jazz standards. The jazz band is known to bring listeners to their feet, dancing until nightfall to rhythmic but soft Brazilian beats. Maggie Gould has been performing and recording with Grammy Award-winning vocalist Claude McKnight from Take 6, working on new material. She has also finished a tour from LA's Catalina Jazz Club to New York and recorded with Russell Malone, John di Martino, and Leo Lucini, with Nanny on percussion, for her new CD.

Nanny Assis is recording his new CD in New York and just finished a sold-out tour with Maggie Gould in New Zealand, performing regularly at Tara Iti, the world’s No. 2 Golf Resort. They are the Music Directors of Jazz Festivals, with their most recent success being the Mangawhai Soul Festival 2020. They have been invited to record and perform in the 2022 Rome Jazz Festival with new material. Recently, they performed a concert with Commodores bassist Ronald LaPread and a funk band at Waipu Cove.
