NASA Earth to Sky: Sharing Our Adirondack Climate Story 

“Earth to Sky,” a partnership with NASA, is coming to the Adirondacks on March 5-6, 2026! 

Location: The course will take place at The Wild Center and Adirondack Sky Center in Tupper Lake on March 5 and at The Paul Smith’s College VIC on March 6, 2026. Additionally, there is a virtual webinar on Feb 25th (3:00 pm - 5:00 pm). 

Apply to join us for this free, in-person, workshop-style course to learn about what’s going on with climate change in the Adirondacks and how to engage with audiences on climate issues.

This course is hosted by a regional collaboration of The Wild Center, Paul Smith’s College, Adirondack Explorer, Adirondack Sky Center & Observatory, Adirondack Council, Adirondack Research Consortium, and Adirondack Climate Outreach and Resilience Network.

Why You Should Apply

This course provides a foundation in Adirondack climate science with an emphasis on the connection between global and local climate impacts. Participants will learn strategies for successful climate communication and connect with the growing NASA Earth to Sky community of practice – over 700 communicators and scientists from a variety of organizations around the country. You will leave the course equipped with knowledge of cutting-edge climate science and a plan for bringing the climate story to your audiences in engaging and inspiring ways. 

• Meet with world-class scientists and communicators to discuss best practices for understanding and responding to a changing climate.

• Learn about the latest global and Adirondack climate research from the scientists themselves. 

• Join interactive sessions with specialists about our topics such as our disappearing winters and boreal habitats as well as best practice for climate communication strategies.

• Engage in community science and climate communications on field trips where educators will engage directly with workshop participants.

• Network with colleagues from around the park and join a community concerned about regional climate issues.

• Foster connections with NASA scientists and local experts such as Dr. Peter Griffith and Dr. Curt Stager as well as climate communications experts from the Yale Program on Climate Change Communications. 

• Participate in "Science on Tap" at Raquette River Brewing with a telescope after-party at the Adirondack Sky Center and Observatory!

Our NASA Earth to Sky Course will be free to attend. Participants will receive a light breakfast, coffee, and lunch, but will be responsible for dinner, travel, and lodging. 

Who Should Apply

We are targeting Adirondack organizations, agencies, or businesses with an interest in improving their audience’s understanding of how climate change is impacting our region. We want science communicators, interpreters, and educators, as well as others hoping to grow their climate communication skills. Partners and collaborators planning to work together on joint projects are encouraged, but we also welcome individuals. You can attend with a team of colleagues from your own organization (max 3 per org), or we can help you put a team together with other individuals with shared objectives (i.e: Team Public Libraries, Team Lake Associations, Team Public Health, etc). We would like to have teams of 3-5 people. Space is limited and admittance to the course will be by application.
