The Mental Health Foundation Australia (MHFA)’s annual National Consumers Art Competition is back for 2024! Every year this opportunity gives budding and passionate artists the opportunity to create and share their work within a supportive community while raising awareness for mental health.  

Enter the competition with your original artwork(s), representing our National Multicultural Mental Health Month theme of "Celebrating Diversity, Healing Together".

Entry fee   

$15 per entry, maximum 2 entries per person. 

Eligibility criteria and specifications

  • All mediums and styles are accepted, such as paintings, sculptures, drawings, photography prints, digital art, or any other type of original art. 
  • Artworks must not exceed dimensions of 60cm x 60cm. Sculptures must not exceed dimensions of 50cm x 30cm x 30cm and a weight limit of 10kg.   
  • Initial submissions must be made through our online form: https://form.jotform.com/Projco/consumers-art-competition-2024 Be sure to upload high resolution images of your artworks (PNG/JPEG/PDF accepted) to assist with the judging process.  
  • Artworks that are found to be AI-generated, inauthentic or fraudulent replications of other artists' creations, and/or depict inappropriate graphic/violent themes, will strictly not be considered.   

Closing date & online public voting

Online submissions close 31st July 2024. All submissions will then go through online public voting from 1st – 31st August 2024 to determine the top 30 artworks.  

Exhibition 

Artists of the top 30 artworks will be contacted to bring/send in the original pieces of their artwork(s) by Friday 27th September 2024 at the latest. Artists are responsible for framing their artworks appropriately at their own cost prior to delivery and must cover postage and insurance costs associated with sending in their artwork(s). 

NOTE: Participants unable to bring/send in their artwork(s) will be automatically disqualified from the running for the top 3 prizes.   

The top 30 artworks will then be exhibited at the Mental Health Foundation Australia's annual signature fundraising event:  

Launch of National Multicultural Mental Health Month Gala 
Saturday 5th October 2024

From the top 30, our judges Jim Goodin, Anudeepa Kadiresan, and Gabriela Alexandra will select the top 3 winners, which will be announced and awarded at the night of the gala. Artists must purchase tickets (at a discounted price) if they wish to attend the Gala - bookings TBA.

Silent Auction: At the night of the Gala, all artists may elect to place their artworks up for silent auction. Reserve prices will be determined by the artists, with 10% of sales proceeds donated to the Mental Health Foundation Australia.  

All unsold/remaining artworks will be returned to the artist.  

Prizes for Top 3 Winners:  

1st Place: $500 cash prize + Wellness Hub voucher for 6 counselling sessions*
2nd Place: $250 Art Shed voucher + Wellness Hub voucher for 6 counselling sessions*
3rd Place: $100 Art Shed voucher + Wellness Hub voucher for 6 counselling sessions*

*with a provisional psychologist/counsellor. 50 minutes per session. Voucher valued at $120 for 6 sessions.
