National Day to Raise Awareness of LGBTIQA+ Domestic Violence: Webinar
Event description
Join us on May 28 for an event to mark the inaugural National Day to Raise Awareness of LGBTIQA+ Domestic Violence. This webinar is a collaboration between Sussex Street Community Law Service, WAAC, and Living Proud.
Our guest speakers include:
Dr Jack Farrugia (The Kids), who will present his research on intimate partner violence (IPV) and family and domestic violence (FDV) within LGBTIQA+ communities in WA, along with insights into community input on the services that are most valued and needed.
Michael Cherry (Sussex Street Community Law Service), who will discuss the Rainbow Legal initiative, a partnership with WAAC and Living Proud, and how it, alongside their other legal services, can support individuals affected by IPV/FDV. Michael will also explain the restraining order process, including what it looks like when applying for a restraining order and the factors courts consider when granting one.
Meaghan Holden (CEO, Living Proud), who will introduce the Pride in Respect community awareness campaign, developed in collaboration with WAAC, GRAI, and Transfolk WA.
The event will feature opportunities for Q&A, providing a space for community members and service providers to learn more about IPV/FDV in LGBTIQA+ contexts.
