Voluntary Assisted Dying in General Practice Webinar: Legal and Clinical Insights

This FREE one hour 15 minute webinar presented by Dr Eliana Close (End of Life Law for Clinicians, Australian Centre for Health Law Research, Queensland University of Technology) and Dr Penny Burns (General Practitioner) will provide GPs and other primary care staff with core knowlege about voluntary assisted dying (VAD) in clinical practice and GPs' VAD legal obligations.
Using a clinical case study, legal and clinical aspects of VAD in General Practice will be explored. Participants will be able to ask questions via the chat function and engage with interactive poll questions.
This is an RACGP-approved CPD activity under the RACGP CPD Program. GPs who attend can choose to receive a Statement of Attendance and for their attendance to be reported to the RACGP for CPD.
Presenters:
Dr Eliana Close
Dr Eliana Close is a legal academic within the Australian Centre for Health Law Research at QUT, specialising in end-of-life law, policy, and practice. Her multidisciplinary work on voluntary assisted dying has shaped law reform and practice in Australia and in Canada. Eliana helped develop the mandatory VAD practitioner training across three Australian states and contributes to the Australian Government-funded End of Life Law for Clinicians program.
Dr Penelope Burns
Dr Penny Burns is a General Practitioner who has worked in rural and urban General Practice for over 40 years. Since voluntary assisted dying was introduced in NSW in November 2023 she has worked as an authorised VAD practitioner in the Access service, which covers the whole of NSW, supporting areas with greater demand.
