Event description

Bringing our National Reconciliation Week program to a close, the Walk for Reconciliation is a powerful moment of place-based truth-telling, reflection, and solidarity.

Karni Walbirniny Koorliny | Walk of Truth and Healing

This walk honours the storytelling that was passed down to Doolann-Leisha Eatts (Garlett) by her grandmother Yurleen Bennell (Garlett), and acknowledges all Carriers of the Galup massacre story.

Curated by the Elders and team behind the Galup Arts Project (produced by Same Drum)

  • Birdiya Noongar Cultural Consultants - Dr Glenda Kickett, Dr Liz Hayden, Lois May and Assoc. Prof. Ted Wilkes
  • Curators - Ian Wilkes and Poppy van Oorde-Grainger

This year, we walk together at Galup (Lake Monger), a place of deep cultural and historical significance for the Whadjuk Noongar people.

The journey will begin with a Welcome to Country, key speakers, song and Smoking Ceremony before we walk together in truth and unity.

This is a walk of TRUTH and HEALING, as we share place-based truth-telling of stories about the history and significance of Galup (Lake Monger).

Powerful stories will be shared, including those about restoring the area's Whadjuk Noongar name.

What to Expect:

  • Powerful song, cultural storytelling, and speakers
